About the Journal
Revista Espacios is a peer-reviewed scientific publication with a track record of more than 45 years (founded in 1980). Our fundamental mission is the dissemination of original and unpublished works, case studies, and comprehensive theoretical reviews in the areas of Management and Organizational Governance, Education and Pedagogy, and Related Technologies. We publish contributions in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, bridging the major languages of the region and targeting a global academic community with special emphasis on Latin America.
History of the Journal
Created in 1980, Revista Espacios maintained an uninterrupted print edition until 2008. It was a pioneer in the digital transition by offering its complete collection online since 2000, ensuring open and free access. As of November 2025 (Vol. 46, No. 06), the journal has modernized its workflow through the comprehensive implementation of the Open Journal Systems (OJS/PKP) platform, ensuring the efficiency, transparency, and quality required by international academic publishing.
Our Development-Oriented Model of Editorial Management
Unlike traditional editorial models based on punitive exclusion, Revista Espacios is governed by a philosophy that fosters and develops regional scientific production. We do not practice blind, immediate rejection upon encountering initial formatting flaws or basic structural omissions. Out of our duty to the research community, we protect their effort and investment through a technical and scientific audit system structured into two independent phases:
- PHASE 1 (Pre-evaluation and Technical Audit): Regulatory, technological, and methodological screening. If the manuscript presents correctable compliance flaws or omissions against our public checklists, the author receives a technical feedback report to perform the necessary corrections completely autonomously (maximum of 2 reviews). If the article remains technically unfeasible after this stage, a fair financial protection policy (refund) is applied.
- PHASE 2 (Peer Review): Qualified external refereeing system. Since the technical baseline is strictly validated in Phase 1, reviewers adopt an analytical approach centered on high excellence rather than formal disqualification, seeking exclusively to refine the scientific core of the manuscript and maximize its international visibility and impact.
Peer Review Process
All contributions that pass the initial methodological audit are submitted to a rigorous arbitration process conducted by specialists with international experience under the peer review system. This process ensures that publications strictly comply with the requirements of scientific rigor and international indexing standards.
Open Access and Copyright Policies
Open Access: Aligned with the Budapest Open Access Initiative, the journal offers immediate open access. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, or link to the full texts of the articles for any lawful, non-commercial purpose and at no cost under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) license.
I4OA: We are part of the Initiative for Open Abstracts (I4OA), ensuring that our article abstracts are accessible to facilitate their discovery and citation.
Copyright: Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication.
Sustainability Model and Article Processing Charges (APC)
Revista Espacios is a non-profit publication of the Grupo Editorial Espacios GEES, 2021, C.A. To ensure operational sustainability (technical support, servers, DOI identifiers, and scientific audit tools), an Article Processing Charge (APC) of $150.00 USD is established, which is mandatory upon manuscript submission.
Financial Protection Guarantee (General Rate):
- If the article is definitively rejected due to unfeasibility in Phase 1, $130.00 USD will be refunded to the author, retaining only $20.00 USD for administrative and audit expenses already incurred.
- If the manuscript passes Phase 1 and enters Phase 2, the APC is 100% consolidated (0% refund), as the funds are immediately invested in the external review and typesetting process.
Support Program for the Venezuelan Academia: As an institution based in Venezuela and aware of the structural challenges faced by its scientific community, the journal grants a special operational subsidy. For research teams from Venezuelan institutions, the adjusted APC will be $40.00 USD (or its equivalent in Bolivares according to the official rate of the BCV). To opt for this benefit and receive processing instructions, it is essential to contact info@revistaespacios.com prior to making any submission.
Archiving and Preservation Systems
PKP Preservation Network (LOCKSS): We utilize a distributed archiving system to create permanent copies for preservation and restoration purposes (ID: 7737BF33-8366-4A5D-BB15-1203D2A52FE6).
Interoperability: We comply with the OAI-PMH protocol for interoperability and metadata harvesting, ensuring a presence in the highest international indexing standards and academic search engines.
